THE BMW FREERIDE HOT SPOT OF THE ALPS OFFERS AN EXCLUSIVE FREERIDE ADVENTURE.

Lock your bindings here and you will click into the future. The FreerideTestival in February 2017 offers the opportunity to try out next season's freeride equipment at first hand. More than 20 popular manufacturers provide their latest items for this purpose - well ahead of the market launch. All interested participants can look forward to two days of free testing. The freeride program is rounded off with side events on avalanche awareness, safety and technique as well as beginner courses. Skiing will take place where the best powder is, of course.
The launch of the THULE FreerideTestival 2017 presented by BMW xDrive on 18 and 19 February is also a premiere. For the first time, the event will be held in Saalbach in the province of Salzburg. The event area will be located directly at the valley station of the Reiterkogelbahn in the district of Hinterglemm, with direct access to the freeride hotspot of the area and to the new connection to Fieberbrunn which opened last winter. The wide and snow-safe slopes between Reiterkogel and Wildseeloder are among the best freeriding opportunities in the region and attract international top events such as the Freeride World Tour.
The second tour stop follows on 11 and 12 March in Vorarlberg - more precisely in Warth-Schröcken, Arlberg. The Arlberg winter paradise is the skiing area with the highest natural snow guarantee in the whole of Austria, with an average of 11 metres of snowfall per year. Thanks to its high-altitude location and the many north-facing slopes between the Steffisalp-Express, Jägeralp-Express and Saloberjet, freeriders can enjoy superb conditions well into spring.
On March 25th and 26th the FreerideTestival comes to the Kaunertal glacier. In addition to broad slopes and untracked lines, freeriders can look forward to the legendary Nörderberg powder run, for example, with an altitude difference of more than 1,100 meters.
Once arrived down in the valley, the fun continues with xDrive. In both freeride areas, the BMW Freeride Shuttle Service takes participants safely back to the lift in the BMW X1.

Avalanche safety and risk management for safe backcountry riding.
Among the preparative measures for the freeride season should be an avalanche safety and risk management course. After participating in our camp you will know what really counts in off-piste terrain. Freeriding and touring enthusiasts must be aware of the dangers they are facing as soon as they leave the marked slopes. That is why it is particularly important for them to be able to minimize the risk they are taking by accumulating know-how about avalanches and other alpine risks and about how to behave correctly in the backcountry. Our SAAC Basic Camps will provide skiers and snowboarders without previous knowledge about avalanches with information about what is important in the backcountry to prevent the trip from ending unexpectedly. During the SAAC Basic Camps you will receive useful tools, which could prove to be essential for survival for you and your friends. You will learn how to identify possible alpine threats, how to read and evaluate snow, weather and avalanche reports, how to recognize signs of danger as well as which strategies to apply in order to reduce the risk.
SAAC Basic Camps are two-day Snow & Avalanche Awareness Camps for skiers and snowboards with a good riding level and technique, who decide to take only a measurable risk instead of putting themselves and their friends at extreme risk. Government-certified ski and mountain guides will provide you with theoretical background information and show you how to behave accordingly when up the mountain.
A SAAC Basic Camp starts with a three-hour theoretical session in the afternoon of the first day. You will then spend the second day riding in the backcountry in small groups together with certified ski and mountain guides.
